POSCO LED, the predecessor to POSCO, has developed its own lighting technology to enhance its competitiveness in extreme industrial facilities, such as the high temperatures, dust, vibrations, and humidity of Pohang Works. In order to exhibit the utmost value in the most extreme environments, it is necessary for lights to be durable and robust as well as having excellent heat dissipation and light efficiency. GlowOne acquired POSCO LED and focused its efforts on improving the level of heat radiation from the design stage by carefully transferring technologies specialized for industrial lighting. Through this process, GlowOne was successful in building the High Bay lighting lineup (see photo). GlowOne plans to take a dualistic strategy launching high and low end products by incorporating the heat transfer and dissipation technologies of SONGHYUN Group into LED lighting. (SONGHYUN Group has the world’s largest market share in marine cables.) Hui-Jong Yun, CEO of GlowOne, emphasized, "This year, there have been many changes in the ranking of procurement companies supplying to the government and public institutions, and some midsize companies in the LED field have gone bankrupt. As the market environment rapidly changes, GlowOne will continue to secure market shares by offering highly efficient, high-quality high end products as well as low end products at reduced costs". GlowOne's strengths can be boiled down to technology, design, and recognition. Through continuous research and development, inspections, and maintenance in extreme environments where it is difficult to install lighting, they have achieved product specifications that are optimized for every situation. GlowOne has supplied products to more than 22 countries around the world, including the US, Japan, and many European countries, and it has been an absolute leader in industrial LED lighting, registering more than 400 patents. Additionally, it has won many awards in lighting competitions including the world’s top-three design competitions such as 'Red Dot' and 'iF'. In 2012, it was the first to introduce the AC direct-type LED bulb to Korea and has been actively popularizing products that consumers can conveniently use. It is the goal of GlowOne to grow as a customer-friendly company by improving its quality and follow-up management system. In order to ensure strict management from the pre-launch stage, GlowOne plans to increase its quality control personnel and place sales engineers according to the characteristics of each product, emphasizing its commitment to designing lighting customized to the customer's level. GlowOne’s existing distributors will receive regular training on lighting installation techniques and product proposal methods. They will also develop cooperative measures such as seeking systematic repair management by distributing pre-inspection manuals upon receiving a request for aftersales service. CEO Yun said, “We will continue to manage the existing POSCO LED accounts while pioneering the industrial and special lighting fields for the public and private sectors as well as overseas markets”. He assured, “We will also restore POSCO’s image as a superpower in industrial LED lighting by continuing to launch new business models including EPC plant lighting that incorporate lighting and material technologies, combining the marine and shipbuilding technologies with the affiliates of SONGHYUN Group”. KPF has agreed to supply USD 1.5 million worth of construction fasteners each to the construction of a 2,000MW coal power plant in Batang, Central Java, Indonesia, and the construction of the Santiago Airport in Chile. As of 2016, the fastener market for construction in Asia and South America is about KRW 5 trillion. This market is gradually expanding with the accelerating industrialization of the countries in these regions. Further to the existing North American and European markets, KPF will pioneer the Asian and South American construction markets, where investments are exploding in infrastructure, such as airports, steel bridges, railways, and ports. 2 [보도자료] 2017.04.19 [보도자료] Successful Outcomes at Fastener Fair Stuttgart - Built strategic relationships with local fastener distributors and wind power companies - Boosted new profit sources by developing high value-added products including wind power products - KPF Vina achieved the highest monthly order amount (approx. KRW 5 billion) since its establishment KPF participated in the Fastener Fair Stuttgart 2017 held in Stuttgart, Germany, from March 28 to 30 and built a foothold to expand the local market with its meaningful achievements. Together with local fastener distributors, KPF agreed on a partnership for joint entry into the Italian, Polish, and Swiss construction fastener markets. They plan to meet again in May to discuss the conclusion of the partnership. KPF also had a discussion with a German wind turbine fastener distributer to supply wind turbines to Enercon, a German wind turbine manufacturer. The two companies mutually agreed to receive a due diligence for Enercon’s supplier registration in April. Amidst a recent increase in the demand for renewable energy, wind turbine fasteners are one of the products that KPF is concentrating on. With this focus, the company has raised expectations for a new portfolio strategy through this fair. Furthermore, KPF has been holding strategic meetings with over 20 of its existing clients, including Wurth, Reyher, Fabory, and Max Mothes, and has explored the possibility to expand into the European market. KPF is striving to create new profits by expanding orders for existing products in the global markets while developing high value-added products, including those for wind power. Meanwhile, KPF Vina has achieved its highest monthly order amount since its establishment in 2010 as a result of steadily strengthening its sales force in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Vietnam. In March, the company recorded about KRW 5 billion in orders, 1.4 times the average monthly sales of KRW 3.7 billion in 2016. Earnings are expected to increase further as order backlogs continue to rise.
